3 days in Moscow – things to see and do

moscow

Have some extra time on your trip to St Petersburg and want to make a quick trip to Moscow? Good news is- it’s totally doable. Bypass the flight and opt for the train between the two cities. Yes, technically it is a longer trip that way but the scenery along the way will be well worth it.

For a quick trip to Moscow, here are some things you can do and see to get the most out of your trip. Hopefully you’ll be able to spend three full days there, but if not- these tips can be easily amended to fit your needs.

Day 1:

Start from Red Square. Red Square is the most iconic highlight of Moscow. Take a walking tour around this significant sight, look through the Resurrection Gate and Iberian Chapel, and learn about the history and culture of this place. In close proximity to the Red Square is the resting place of Vladimir Lenin (Lenin’s Mausoleum). Throughout history, people have come here to showcase their love for their leader. Right in the front of Red Square is St. Basil’s Cathedral. It is one of the most famous buildings in Moscow and has stunning architecture with onion-like dorms, bright colors, and beautiful interior. Highly recommend taking a walking tour of this building to see the statues of Minin and Pozharsky among many others. The domes, that I am sure you have seen in pictures, look even more stunning in real life. Take a break and stop at the Gum Department store to fill your stomach with delicious snacks and meals. Wander through the halls of this beautiful store and do some shopping.

Day 2:

Start your next day with some warm breakfast and head to the State Historical Museum. It is a stunning piece of architecture and is home to many famous exhibitions that showcase the history of Moscow. Next, head to Kolomenskoye Park. Situated in the southeast of Moscow, this park features several impressive buildings, churches, and bell towers. Pack some food for a picnic here and stroll for hours in this big park. After some strolling, take the metro and head to Tolstoy House Museum. Relax as you read stories that have been passed down for ages.

Day 3:

Head to one of the most beautiful white buildings I have ever seen- The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Here you can attend classical music concerts free of charge. A short car ride will bring you to your next stop - Gorky Park. This culture and leisure park is somewhere you can relax after hours of exploring. Come here, visit stunning sculptures, bridges, and fine views of the green space. Finally, grab a ticket to the Bolshoi theater to enjoy some fun performances and dine out at nearby restaurants.

Sounds fun, right?! An itinerary with lot of things to do but not overly packed, right?! When you’re ready to take the leap and visit one of the most amazing countries in the world, let me know. I’d be happy to help you plan your vacation to Russia!
