Must Try European Desserts

Europe is full of delicious food, but what makes my mouth water is its drool-worthy desserts. The different desserts are as varied as the cultures and as storied as each town's own history. Here are five top European desserts that you need to try during your next visit to Europe.

Crème Brûlée in Paris:

A classic French dessert that claims to steal the hearts of its admirers and take you back to the seventeenth century when it was created. This soft, simple, and creamy dessert is made with a beautiful mixture of eggs, vanilla custard, cream, and caramelized sugar. It has a custard base topped with a thin layer of caramelized sugar. Light yet sweet and a perfect ending to any meal.

Appeltaart in Amsterdam:

Appeltaart is a traditional Dutch dessert with a history as long as anyone can remember. This incredible dessert is made by baking big chunks of apple, currants, and raisins in a springform pan and topping the base with a touch of cinnamon, lemon juice, and some whipped cream. Order one, take a bite, and you will be thanking yourself for tasting this.

Gelato in Italy:

No trip to Italy is complete without this sweet icy dessert. Gelato is one of Europe’s most popular desserts...and for very good reason. It is a frozen, creamier dessert with low-fat content. The best of both worlds! Traditional Gelatos are made with milk, hazelnuts, pistachio, chocolate, and custard topped with Nutella. Gelato is made with all-natural ingredients, less cream, more milk, and exciting flavors that will surely satisfy your palate.

Sacher Torte from Austria:

One of the most popular desserts to eat in Austria is Sacher Torte. This decadent dessert is a rich chocolate cake laced with apricot jam and topped with a dollop of whipped cream. Get yours from the Sacher Hotel and fill your mouth with chocolaty favors.

Rote Grütze:

Rote Grutze is a classic puddling like German dessert. It starts with a red currant base (while other berries could be added if you'd like) and it is cooked down into a gelatin like substance and chilled. Frequently served with ice cream and vanilla sauce topping, this light dessert will surely tempt you on a warm summer's day!

Are you drooling yet? I know I am. There is always room for dessert…especially when traveling in Europe! You will not be upset that you chose to order that sweet treat, I can pretty much guarantee you that!!
