First country to take children to in Europe
The thing that will make this trip easiest and least stressful for your children is the face that people speak English where you are going. Granted, it may be a different style of English and some words may mean different things in UK than they do here in the states but for the most part, the language is pretty similar.
Think back to the first time you went to Europe (if you haven't made it to Europe yet, that's okay- just imagine this scenario). How scared were you? How uncomfortable were you the first time you approached someone and they did not understand what you were saying? As adults, we can figure out a way to communicate what we are saying without words...but, chances are, a child cannot. Imagine how stressful that would be to a child. That stress could snowball into anxiety and fear and nobody needs/wants that to happen. Yes, I am well aware that most people in Europe speak some level of English (I told you that in one of the first emails- don't try to throw that back in my face, lol). Here's the thing, someone speaking a different language can be scary to a child. Especially if they haven't had any exposure to it previously.
Either Way, here are some awesome things you can do with your children on your trip to London.
Natural History Museum (FREE):
Your children can get up close and personal with dinosaur fossils
London Science Museum (FREE):
Interactive exhibits, shows and demonstrations throughout the day
Museum of Childhood (FREE):
Collection of toys we all used to play with as children
Changing of the Guard (FREE):
Most popular takes place at Buckingham Palace, but a secondary changing takes place at Horse Guard's Parade in Whitehall. You may even be able to snap a picture with a guard!
Borough Market (FREE to visit):
Walk the streets where Harry Potter was filmed, visit the Leaky Cauldron and enjoy some great food while you're there
Princess Diana Playground (FREE):
Open to children 12 and under and features a large pirate ship and small body of water for paddling
London Zoo:
A little expensive but well worth it if you have an animal lover in the family
Tower of London:
A fun experiences that allows children to catch a glimpse into the days where suits of armor were normal
London Eye:
Who doesn't love a ferris wheel? This one gives you bird's eye view of the city
These are just some of the examples of the great things you can do with your children in the United Kingdom (London, really). Another important tidbit- staying inside of the city will be a little bit more expensive but you'll save money by not having to pay for transportation. London is an incredibly walkable city.
