5 Key Tips to Keep in Mind

Going to Europe for the first time can be scary and overwhelming. Here are some tips to keep in mind when planning your vacation. Knowing these things in advance can better help you plan, book and budget for your vacation.

HOTELS

Hotels are a little different. You will be hard pressed to find a bed with a king or even a queen bed in them. Most rooms have twin or double beds in them. The rooms are smaller overall and if you're traveling in the warmer months, make sure to check if the hotel has air conditioning in the rooms (not all of them do).

SAFETY

Europe is a very safe place to travel...not a whole lot of violent crime to worry about. Pick-pocketing is a concern in major cities, so just be wary of your belongings. Only carry what you absolutely need with you . Perhaps using a neck wallet or money belt is a good idea.

DINING OUT

Dining out in Europe is, by far, my favorite part. The food is so delicious! Don't be afraid to try new things! Dining out in Europe is about enjoying good food and good company. The pace of service is usually slower and you won't get the check until you ask for it. No need to over-tip, most times a service charge is included with the cost. Round up to the next whole number to award great service.

LANGUAGE

Most Europeans, especially 50 and younger, speak some level of English. That being said, it is respectful to try to learn a few general words/phrases in the language of the country you are visiting. Simple phrases like "Please", "Thank you", and "Bathroom" can get you a long way.

PACKING

There is no need to pack all of your earthly belongings for your trip to Europe. Most things that you can get here, you can get there, except peanut butter (weird, I know). The only thing you ABSOLUTELY need to have is your passport. Other than that, don't stress. Amazon delivers there too ;)
