Transportation in Europe

The European public transportation system is amazing. It’s like this wonderful, interconnected system of goodness. It makes sense, it’s easy to understand and most of all, it’s reliable.

But is it right for your trip? Maybe. It just depends on where in Europe you’d like to go, how much time you have and what your budget is.

Flying is the quickest way to get from point A to point B and will probably be your best option if you are traveling long distances. But it’s not always the best option for shorter distances. Flight schedules can be unreliable and delayed. Planes aren’t the most comfortable things in the world…and they aren’t the cheapest either.

Buses are, by far, the cheapest method of transportation and they are actually quite reliable as well. Bus stops are, in my opinion, kind of hard to find in Europe though. In my experience, they weren’t clearly marked and they were in out of the way places. Traveling by bus, however, does take a decent amount of time. If you’re traveling a short distance and/or want to see different parts of the city you’re in, by all means- take the bus. They are pretty comfortable as well.

Trains/metro systems are a thing of beauty in Europe. They are comfortable, reliable and affordable. Three major pluses in my book. They are also pretty quick. Trains make less stops than buses and they travel at faster speeds. You can reach almost all major cities in Europe by train and you can get there quickly. Train routes do run multiple times a day. If you’re feeling adventurous- try an overnight train, you’ll spend less day light time traveling. That was definitely an interesting experience for us, but we had a great time!
