Underrated Countries in Europe

When people think of Europe, they think of Paris, they think of London, they think of Italy. I agree, these are amazing places to visit in Europe. But what about the countries that aren’t top of mind? In experiencing these lesser visited countries, you will get a whole different feel for Europe as a whole. These countries aren’t as “Americanized.” They aren’t as busy. They are more authentic. In my opinion, in these lesser visited countries, you truly experience Europe the way in which it once was.

Poland

I could not agree more with this country topping the list. This is, by far, my most favorite place I have visited in Europe and I cannot wait to go back and explore more. The towns and cities in Poland are unlike anywhere I have ever been before. The food is amazing, the people are just as awesome.

Bulgaria

This country really is an up and comer in Eastern Europe and if you are in search of stunning landscapes, this is the place for you! From the vastness of the black sea to beautiful beaches to fields upon fields of sunflowers, you will not be disappointed.  Make sure to check out the Belogradchik fortress in northern Bulgaria- simply unreal!

Malta

Malta is a small island off of the coast of Italy and is a dream come true for all of your beach lovers out there. You will have your pick of places to sunbathe, snorkel and cliff dive. Don't worry if beaches aren't your thing- there are plenty of other reasons to visit Malta as well- history, culture, food and entertainment. You will not be bored, I promise!

Finland

If nature and adventure are on your list of things to do on vacation, add Finland to your list! Among the top adrenaline rushes this country has to offer are ice and rock climbing. Finland is also an up and comer in the culinary arts. Not to mention the opportunity to see the Northern Lights during the winter months or the midnight sun in the summer months. Oh, they also host the air guitar world championships. Rock on!

Slovenia

If you are in the market for quaint towns, beautiful vineyards and castles then Slovenia is right up your alley. Nestled between Croatia, Austria and Italy, Slovenia offers the best of all three surrounding countries.  Lake Bled (as seen in this photo) is Slovenia's claim to fame. Located in the center of the lake is an island holding a centuries old baroque chapel.

These hidden gems are growing in popularity each year. Don't miss your chance to experience their untouched beauty before mainstream tourism takes over.
